Thick strap military, thin strap civilian.
Professional hunters & military had heavier gear as it was used more often than civilians.
And you don't need a buckle for the adjustable strap.
I prefer a copper ring over brass.
Here's a belt bag with heavy flap ,lead sheet.
And a deer hide with thin strap ,antler button.
