Friends, our 2nd Amendment rights are always under attack and the NRA has been a constant for decades in helping fight that fight.
We have partnered with the NRA to offer you a discount on membership and Muzzleloading Forum gets a small percentage too of each membership, so you are supporting both the NRA and us.

All of the fellows that I know who have Bakers, some are MSVTCo and the rest are Loyalist Arms, had the rifles retro-fitted with Colerain .62 caliber barrels https://www.trackofthewolf.com/Categories/PartDetail.aspx/652/4/COLE-62-BAKER . While they are rifled, and come with the breech plug installed, you do have to be careful about soldering the barrel lugs, installing the sights, and especially attaching the bayonet lug. The rifling is 1:66 when Bakers were supposed to be 1:120, but that lets you shoot reasonable loads, with the patched round ball.
I have a Baker from Loyalist Arms that I bought about 15 years ago. It shoots great with a .600 round ball and .018" pillow ticking patch. The folks at Loyalist Arms did a great job of tuning the lock prior to sending it to me. Being a smoothbore, I usually shoot it at 50-75 yards with about 70 grains of FFg black powder. The sights are crude but no problem hitting the 6" round gong at 50 yards.
