Has anyone tried the short Buffalo Ball-etts in a 1'32" twist barrel? How about the LEE REAL bullets? I have 2 CVA sidelock .54 cal rifles with that twist. They are Frontier Hunter carbines with 24" baarels. I am trying to sell them, but if i end up keeping one of them i may want to shoot it. I have never fired a MLer with that fast a twist before. I don't really want to use long conicals like the Maxi Ball and Great Plains bullets, as i don't feel that much lead is needed for deer and elk from a .54 cal. So do you think the short Ball-etts or REALS will work in that fast a twist with a hunting charge of powder?

You can head shoot squirrels at 50 yards with a patched round ball and 70 grains of 3f 777 out of the 1-32 CVA barrels. You may not need a bullet at all. I did it. I worked up the load and went squirrel hunting with one of the inlines using that twist just to prove it could be done.

I was using a 50, but if anything, the 54 is even more forgiving on loads.

I'd think you could get good accuracy at reduced power levels, make a small game rifle out of a .54. :front:

Got a good double barrel .12 ga for small game hunting. In fact, it is a good big game gun too since it shoots rd balls real well. Don't really need the .54 just thought it might make a good deer and elk rifle in place of the double barrel.
