I found this old handmade tin pouch in the bottom of a box with some old late 19th century shotgun reloading tools that I had bought recently. I may be wrong but my first impression was that it was a ball or cap pouch made of tin with soldered seams. The designs on the tin appears to be brass or copper that are soldered to the tin. It has a tin belt loop on the back side. There is an metal eye on each end to tie something to it or to hang some bobbles or something of the likes from them. By the design I do not believe that it is North American made, but I have been known to be wrong in the past.

It appears to have either Napoleonic or Ottoman influence. I have been informed that it is possible to have come from Northern Iraq or Afghanistan.

Have any one seen anything like this before or know what it is.

Is there any historical significance/value of this piece or can anyone direct me in a direction that I may find some more information.
I have tried searching the net but cannot find anything similar.

It is 5.25"L x2"W x2.5"H

Thank you for your time and assistance.

Really interesting but totally out of my knowledge area...we'll see if someone more into these pouches can give more details.

Could have held shot too,
The shooter would use a "dipper" to get a measured charge of shot, said dipper could have hung on one of the loops, :idunno:

So the hasp on the "flap" it would seem would have gone over the bit sticking out the bottom, I can't tell from photos but I'm guessing that bit on the bottom also has a hole in it. If that were so then the hasp would need something to pin it in place, in order for the fastening to stay closed. I throw out that the ring on the side, was for the string (chain) that held that pin :idunno:

If it turns out I'm right I and going to wear a sherlock holmes hat around the house all weekend

Go ahead and put your hat on. The hasp does go over the pin at the bottom which also has a hole in the side for a keeper pin. There is also a rosetta around the base of the pin as well. As far as to where the keeper pin was tied to, I am not sure as there does not appear to be any indication of that but the eyelets are a good start.
