I have a p58 3 band enfield (actually an early Parker Hale replica). Does it improve the accuracy to have the barrel bands loose? The stock is bedded and it seems to me that tight bands might change the point of impact as the barrel heats up and expands. If so, how loose are we talking?
Thanks,
Brian

I don't know about bedding, but it seems to me loose bands would introduce a lot of inconsistency into the equation. It would allow more movement of the barrel as it heats up than tight bands would. Bands tightened the same amount after every re-assembly would at least be consistent.

But I ain't an expert on the subject, just speculating.

Those bands need to be snug or they will slide forward under recoil. Without spring clips to hold them in place (as on a '61 Springfield) the bands must be kept tight. On my Enfield there is no motion at all when I try to wiggle the bands.
