So I've got a junkyard Hawken I finished last year. Mostly built with CVA parts. Got the look I wanted and got it done for less than $150. Was looking at it today and decided two things. One, since I don't have much in it and, for my collection, it's a keeper, so I think I'm gonna put a new L&R lock on it. Also decided I would like to have it punched out to a rifled bigger caliber. I understand Mr. Hoyt doesn't do CVA barrels. Any of you guys know who might? It is a 15/16 barrel so was also wondering if that is thick enough to go to .58? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Have a nice day.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing about caliber. I'll give mr. Hoyt a call and see what he think about working on it.
I wonder if the bolster and breech were removed from a cva barrel, would he just provide the bore service without the liability of the troublesome bolster and breech? A barrel is a barrel right?

I wondered about that too. I've never removed a breech from a CVA before. But I might be willing to give it a shot.

I haven’t either. The bolster on one of my CVA mountain rifle can be threaded out with ease. I think it’s a crap shoot on the breech.

Well if I screw it up there are usually some old CVA Hawken barrels on eBay that can be had sometimes reasonably. So I've got that going for me. Sounds like a trip to YouTube might be in the works.

I’ve been looking at those barrels. Last week I bought a CVA mountain pistol kit that is un touched, still in the styrofoam and sleeve. I want to get one of those barrels and cut it down to 12 or 14” for an additional barrel for the pistol.

I've got it on the project list to do that same thing with a .45 KY pistol. Mountain pistols are really good shooters. I've been wiping out the local armadillo population lately and popped one with my .50 mountain pistol a couple weeks ago. Good luck with that project and let us know how it turns out.

A few years ago I saw a CVA KR barrel rebreached by cutting the barrel In Front of the bolster. You lose some inches and need some tools. Anything is possible. It's your money, go for it.

ok I will try this again, there is nothing to fear about a CVA/Traditions breech system you just have to follow the rules
1. have a solid bench 3-5 hundred pounds minimum with a solid 5" vise brass/aluminum jaws
2. you have to remove the bolster this is installed with a crush fit/torque and then drilled for the nipple so clocking it back after removal is possible but use red or green thread locker
3. remove the breech plug. this is fairly easy to do but don't use a "crescent" wrench you'll just bugger it up! when you reinstall it use the bolster hole to be sure of alignment (use a proper sized bolt to check alignment not the bolster so you don't bugger up the threads on it)

now you can have it bored/rifled to what you wish within reason and the limitations of the face of the breech plug face it has to mate up with the shoulder of the bore.

NOW FOR THE DISCLAIMER I HAVE NEVER UP BORE A BARREL AND REINSTALLED THE BREECH PLUG AND HAVE NEVER COMPARED THE PLUGS FROM A 50 TO A PLUG FROM A 54 BUT IF I WAS A BETTING MAN IF THEY ARE BOTH FROM A 15/16" BARREL THEY WELL BE THE SAME JUST BECAUSE IT MEANS LESS PARTS FOR THE MANUFACTURE.

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna copy and paste that and put it in my muzzleloader folder.
