A few years ago, this would have been a common sight out our bathroom window. And wouldn't you know its another 11 days till the Spring Turkey Season, April 24th - May 20th, 2006. Took this photo about 30 minutes ago from time of this posting. This bird is huge, the leaf circled in orange is about 6-7 inches in length.

:hmm: I was told while hunting moose in Newfoundland a few years ago; " The season is open all year round, they just take the fine off in October-November"
Maybe the same could be said for turkey season :rotf: :rotf:

Check your local game laws, no matter where you live...

Some places have laws against keeping wild "game" animals, remember, the state profits from the sales of hunting tags...

Nice pic...Good luck when the season arrives.

Claypipe,

Which species is that, Eastern?

The ones I posted the other day that were walking through our yard were Rio Grandes. There are also Merriams here.

Back in the mid 1970's, when I lived in Lower Coast Algiers, Louisiana, had a neighbor that had a sky light in the rear porch roof. We'd shoot ducks from easy chairs. His kids would spot the ducks for us and then retreive them. Life was good then.

That's a descendant of the turkeys that the Pilgrims feasted upon. New England, specifically Massachusetts, a Meleagris gallopavo silvestris, Eastern Sub Species. They say that a mature hen, may be nearly as tall as a male, but is usually lighter, weighing between eight and twelve pounds. This bird was 20lbs if she was an ounce.
