I just look on the "nutrition facts" label to see the percentage of sodium. 0% sodium means no salt.

I went to the dollar store and bought a few small pans that I used as double boilers. I found from experience that it was best to make a summer lube with a little more beeswax to keep from melting in the heat and a winter lube with a little less beeswax to keep it pliable in the winter cold. I used several different oils and found no real difference between them.

:rotf: Honeybees. but you have to rob the hive. :rotf: Seriously, Crazy Crow carries is and i'm sure numerous purveyors of buckskinning items will have it too.

Contact the Agriculture Extension service office in your county to find out who the local beekeepers are. You usually can buy beeswax cheapest from them. It also sold in hobby stores, but at a much higher price than I want to pay. However, for mixing up a lube, you aren't going to use all that much. I have a huge brick of it that my dad left me, and I can't imagine using it all in my lifetime.

Anyone have a good source for bees wax?
Beeswax
I use 1 part beeswax to 2 parts Ballistol. Melt together in a double boiler. I pour it off into old plastic Grizzly chew cans.

Go to the resource section and look up Stumpy's
Moose Snot...I made some last summer and really like it...It's Bees Wax, Castor Oil and Murphy's Oil soap...

The bees wax can be found at Hobby Lobby and the castor oil can be found at a health store, it's also used to rub on joints, it is cheaper that way vs the stuff sold that you drink...

I make up beeswax and olive oil. Its a good lube, furniture polish and works well on chapped lips!

So how big is a one pound brick of Bee's Wax?

It more often comes in conical form -- about the volume of a 12-oz. styrofoam cup, the vehicle in which I most often see it sold.

The pound I bought from Hobby Lobby was about
10 inches by 4 inches by a inch and a half...

I used about a fourth of it to make a pint of Stumpy's Lube...

Thanks for that info nchawkeye...

and thank you runball (or do I call you Mr Obvious) for the comedy relief..... Do I get an assist? can't set those one liners up any better.
