Lathed a couple of spouts this afternoon at a Friends place.
Question is, what is the "Proper" way to finish it? Got some Golden Mink Oil, will that work or just go with bees wax?

Personally, I would not use Mink Oil as it does not dry. What would make it worse would be to use beeswax over mink oil. When it gets warm or hot, those things will turn into a gooey mess.

I would use the following product because I keep it in stock for gun stock finishes, etc. http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-...y&utm_campaign=itwine&utm_content=167-009-220

If you have a Marine Varnish of almost any kind, that would work very nicely as well.

As to the beeswax, you might want to use some on the dowel portion of the plug, just so it won't stick when the weather gets humid, though you would only use a little bit rubbed in very hard and wipe as much off as you can after you apply it.

I use BLO on all my wood accoutrements, just like I do with rifle stocks. I'm talking not only spouts, but loading blocks, powder measures, shot measures and a few more I can't drag up at the moment. Looks good and protects well.

I have considered linseed oil, I do have Food grade Hemp oil that I use in food. Been reading on the use of Hemp oil on Wood, very popular apparently and lots of good revues.

Long as it set up hard and waterproofs, I don't see why not. Of course, I have BLO and tunge oil finish on the shelf, and I'd have to go hunting for anything else.

If you try it, let us know how it works.

Continuation from the Belt pouch thread, better for it to be dedicated.

Lathed a couple pieces for the pouches, gonna do one Snake and the other Flask, will make it easier to identify .54 and .50, and Il see what is more comfortable to use.

Forgot the wood type, First gave it a diluted wash of Bison Brown from Tandy leather dye. Gave it 24 hours then rubbed Hemp oil all over it, food grade. Gave it another day and a rub in case of any excess. Next rubbed beeswax all over then and then buffed.
Next, working on the dimensions of the bag'z etc..

There ya go. Looking good.

Base on personal experience, with use and wear the stems on those wood plugs are gonna polish and slick up, suddenly wanting to wander out on their own. When that starts happening, just rub them a little with beeswax to give them a little "stick."

Good job.
