True tinder fungus, the orange-ish stuff that grows on birch trees, will catch a spark easily, and is almost impossible to put out.

False tinder fungus is the stuff that needs treatment of various sorts to make it take a spark.

Punk wood at just the right stage of rotten will take a spark as if it were charred.
Cattails are protected and illegal to harvest where i'm at.

Monk's cloth seems to work well for me. Lots of nooks and crannies to catch your breath and make it hotter when you are blowing. I found it at Joann's Fabrics.
