Well I found my new rifle kit sort of....
I just picked up a very early T/C Cherokee that needs as much work as starting from scratch with a kit.
It was $125 and came with plenty of free surprizes.
1- old charge still in the barrel for what may have been many years. (I got that out already and have started cleaning up the bore.)
2- the old nipple was fused into the breech plug and I could not get it out even with drilling and using an easyout. So that part I am going to leave to a competent gun smith. Even if they need to re-tap it to a bigger nipple I would like to keep this very old barrel and get it to shoot. I am looking into a whole other barrel as well from TOTW. (less than $160)
3- the stock is made from some really nice wood but unless you are close up you can't even see how nice the grain is because of the old finish on the stock in fact there is what I thought was a chip in the wood on the cheek piece but it ended up being a ding in the very thick finish (someone must have polyed the thing)
So that's where this journey begins just as much work as any kit I have built before if not more. I really have fallen in love with the little rifle though.
