I've got a mountainview cur dog for squirrels... All of these dogs are "naturals" for tree rats. These dogs just can't be beat!

Wes,
Great work as usual! If you have a copy of
Sam's sketch handy would not make me mad if
you posted it. He loved to run in the field while
I would hunt but I can't say he was much of a
hunting dog, but he was one heck've a companion.

Back before quail were extenct..I was raised behind pointers and setters.

Here's my new bird dog - Angus at 2 months and 3 months. He's my 2nd English Springer Spaniel - my first was a liver & white named Bully. Good dogs, no quit in them, good with kids and they love to run and retrieve. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v719/finnwolf/DSC00052.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v719/finnwolf/Angus.jpg

Here is a photo of my Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Delta....I some day hope to have her fetch up some ducks that I shot with my 20 bore flintlock trade musket.

I always liked this photo; I think it should be entitled "DOG is my copilot"!

I love this pic. I have a hammered 20 quage sxs that I salvaged from my father in law. It was sitiing in his closet and neede firing pins. I had a smith put new ones in and opened the chokes to skeet and improved cylinder. Total length of the gun, 46 inches..perfect for the grouse woods. I am excited because our grouse population in wisc was on the low end of the cycle for a few years and now this spring they are drumming all over the place so that must mean the cycle is going up :applause:

thats pretty good numbers. i live in the daniel boone nat. forest, there's no place i would rather be but regretibly our bird numbers are way down, mostly from the lack of habitat due to no clearcutting any more in the forest. how was the grouse population in your area last year.
It seems that enviromental groups believe there should be no logging in the national forests. Luckily, wisconsin is full of state, county, and ruffed grouse society habitat projects. I read though that the Ruffed Grouse society was now starting to fight these groups when it comes to timber management in the national forests. When i lived in Minnesota, I read an interesting article by a real enviromentalist that while he did believe certain types of forests should be protected, he also supported and explained in his article that more wildlife than not are dependant on periodic forest disturbance, and that logging can be done to imitate fires. I was at a aspen clearcut in the boulder lakes management area near duluth minn about 8 years ago. On the hiking trail it posted a sign explaining the planning and the enviromental precautions that went into the site and the wildlife species that would benefit. Too many enviromental groups seemed to care more about fund raising that real enviromentalism

thanks for all the pics and replies. working with my dog every day making small progress but hope to start hunting this fall.
