Trip to Houston was not successful in finding black powder the short time I was there. BP guns are on the decline in Houston.

Dallas/Ft. Worth is a manageable drive for me.

I need some place to get black powder in Dallas/Ft. Worth.

What I really need is 4F, I am okay on 2F and 3F. I have a flint lock on the way and need 4F.

Thanks for help.

I hate to tell you this, but noone sells black powder here in the DFW area.
I had to buy some from Powderinc . Their prices are very good. They have a minimum 5# order size.

You can prime with 3f.

Good Grief, if you live in Texas, buy it from Coonies Explosives in NM. Save some shipping money.

I agree.
I had heard the wonders of 4F priming so I went out and bought a can of it.

In all honesty, I couldn't see any difference at all in the 4F and the 3Fg I had been using for years.

Another thing to keep in mind when priming with the 4F powder. If you live in a very humid area and you've fired a shot and then reprimed with the 4F, check it often. It has a bad habit of soaking up moisture and turning to "soup", as they say.
Actually it isn't really soup but it does become very wet and it won't ignite.
The 3Fg will also become somewhat wet in this situation but it isn't as bad as the 4F is.

Am I still using the 4F to prime with?
Yup. As this granulation of powder isn't good for anything else and a pound of it is a LOT of primes I will probably be using the stuff for another year or so just to get rid of it.

Last time I bought 4f was at Cabela's in north Ft. Worth about 2 years ago .. have they stopped selling now? :hmm: :shake:

Davy

Davy they only sell the substitutes now, as do Elk Castle, Bass Pro, and everyone else in the phone book.

Jim

Pepperbelly, I have been told that most Bass Pro Shops still carry BP ,But you have to ask for it they do not put it out with the subs. I just have mine shipped to the door, after I rode about 200 miles looking for some.

Smo I called the Bass Pro near me. They have stopped acrrying the real stuff. Cabela's and every other gun shop in Ft.Worth have also stopped carrying bp. They all do carry the substitutes since it isn't classed as an explosive as bp is.
From reading here there are people in many areas that are also having trouble finding it locally.
Since powderinc's prices are good- I paid $18.00 and change per pound for a 5 pound order, I will keep buying from them. Their prices have shipping and haz-mat included btw.

Jim

They sell it in Longview about 1 1/2 hour from you I'll try and dig the name and price up for you. Fred :hatsoff: ( or call info for any pawn shop and they will give you the pawn shops #)

I see this post is acouple months old but the Bass Pro shop in Grapevine sells Goex real BP.. It aint cheap at $19.99 a pound but they do have it.. Bought some yesterday.. You have to go to the gun counter and ask for it.. It's in their safe not on the shelf.

Thanks, I am in fairly good shape now, I picked up what I needed for myself and fw last month in Phoenix.

It's good to know that it can be found.

Thanks again,

RDE

Bass Pro Shops at Katy Mills Mall west of Houston carries Goex BP. I bought five pounds of Ffg and Fffg there last year. You have to ask for it as they don't keep it out front.
