I want to get a blunderbuss to play around with. I plan using it for being a pirate, display in house and plan old fun shooting it. I am looking at Veteran and Middlesex. I did look at Loyalist but don't want to deal with drilling and shipping. If I was to step up in price would I really gain anything in a blunderbuss and who to use? Thanks

A blunderbuss was designed as a close range man killer. If you Leann a good sight picture for it maybe you could hunt some close range small game.
All in all this will be your toy gun. Take it out to the range and lob buck shot at milk jugs
So as long as it goes bang and your satisfied with the fit and finish either should serve
I’m thinking Loyalist sells with a touch hole pre drilled and Veteran/ Discriminating-general does not.
I have never delt with Middlesex but I’ve heard they can be slow of service, Caveat Emptor

If I were going to shoot it, I would secure a barrel from Rayl or Rice.

Rice makes muzzleloading barrels. Many consider his barrels to be the best ones around.

https://www.ricebarrels.com/
Rayl is a custom barrel maker.
I don't know if he is still in business but his barrels are also very high quality. Ed Rayl doesn't "do Networking" on the web so the only way to contact him is by phone. I lost the phone number years ago.

I did look at the sitting fox kits. If I was more talented in wood fitting/knowing what to do in building a flintlock , I would jump on their kit. The Rice made barrel is more in line of what I think a blunderbuss should be (4ga). If I was to get their finish one spending that kind of money I may as well get a used custom smooth bore fowler. By Tuesday I will decide what to do and so far I am leaning towards Veterans.

From everything I've read here and elsewhere stay away from Middlesex, Veteran's is okay but Loyalist is the best.

Okay I saw these in my search. Of course they are not in stock. But what got my attention was the made in USA claim

Now this is the one I would buy if really made in the USA . Seems to be a 4 ga. Might be a rice barrel. I will contact them to get more info.

Thoughts on these.
Those look like Indian imports. Maybe they assemble them here in the US. :dunno:

Those are tiger's guns and I rank them below that of India pieces. Veteran strips the entire stock down and will tweak the springs to get better lock action than factory. Loyalist turns out better pieces but doesn't put the effort into the lock. Middlesex tends to have more lock problems and military heritage fills in the bottom. In general the French locks are the most reliable on the blunderbusses.

Has anybody looked at the Blunderbuss's at Pirate Fashions? They are made in America. They are reasonably priced.

I have bought one from MSTCo. 6 yrs. ago and have not one problem with it. I have also bought 6 long arms from them and 4 pistols and am very happy with there product's. the wait is a killer thought, but that is the way it is. JMHO.

Bought from middlesex a bout 2008. At the time they didn’t tell me how long the wait would be. Don’t get in a hurry. Have not had a problem with the lock , but things change.

Way overpriced go with veteran or loyalist a touch isnt that hard to do, location is the most important

In England, 18th Century coach drivers carried a blunderbuss foe protection against highwaymen. In County Cork, Ireland, where Gramma's side originated, it was the highwaymen who carried a blunderbuss. Here is my one and only Irish blunderbuss, bore about 0.80 cal. Remember me to Willie Brennan. By the way, Rayl seems to know what he is doing. From the one I examined I'd not go near an Asian Indian copy. Threads need to be correct.
