Lastnight when I got home from work I went across the road from my house, I own 4 acres over there with a 50 yd shooting range on it, just to look around. when I got down by the 25 yd target holder I saw something move behind the target rack and I thought it was a grey fox. The little kitty came out and sat up on a log and watched me and that is when I realized it was a bobcat. I was only 20 yds away from it. I tried to back step so I could get to the house and grab the camera and it disappeared into the brush. There are a few around my area but they are rare. 4 years ago my son and I were hunting on my property up the road and we saw 3 different cats in 3 days. They are very ellusive critters. Sure is nice to live in the mountain :redthumb:. I just wanted to share my experience with you all.

Yeah, I love seeing those critters--they must be making advances because I have seen more lately than ever! We live in a rural area near the Tex/LA line and have seen several. Not to one-up you, but recently my wife and I were out walking on the dead end road in front of our house and a huge bobcat stepped out of the woods about 15-20 feet from us. It was taller than our 75 lb English Pointer, who fortunately had run ahead. Biggest one I have ever seen. It paused, looking at us and then calmly walked across the road into the woods on the other side. My neighbors run a fish farm on a couple hundred acres across from us and use goats to keep their grass cut--they claim to have seen two pumas on their land, which killed several of their animals. One was black, the other blond.

South Carolina is eat up with them in the area I hunt. I see them every year but 2-3 years ago I had a pack of dogs run through my hunting area, stop, and start circling a patch of honeysuckles. I shot and killed one of the mutts and the other one dove right into the thicket. I seconds later while I was reloading he comes hauling a$$ out just in time to catch a 38 caliber round ball in the ribs. I reloaded again and waited. About 5 minutes later this Bobcat pops out and starts prancing around like he's done killed the dogs. I laughed as he walked over and started pawing at one of them and rubbing himself against them. The Bobcat would have gone about 35 pounds and was about 2.5 feet talk. My day was over so I just watched him for a while.

Closest I've seen one was one time helping a buddy run his bird banding nets a bobcat jumped out of the brush right in front of us, fortunately it didn't jump into the net. Must've been a young one because it hung around the area all day.

That Cat must be used to seeing people if it allowed itself to be observed from 20 yards distance. Nice sighting.
