Just finished watching Boone & Crockett on the History Channel. Thoughts and ideas on the program other than the technical faux pauxs. Was it historicaly accurate or was it glorified? Take care, Rick.

One must take Hollywood with 7000 grains of salt.

Take care, Rick. Make sure you catch the special on the Alamo running tonight and then again on Saturday. Not sure if it is on HistoryChannel, Discvoery ot the Learning Channel. Form the previews I have seen, it looks like a politcally correct rendition of the event, but I could be mistaken.

The Boone and Crockett special you saw ran some time ago, and I can't remember the details of it too well. The interesting thing about BOTH Boone and Crockett was the fact that neither one really hated Indians, even though they were "Indian fighters" of a sort. I think Boone wa actually raised a Quaker, which might explain it. At a time when most White Americans thought the only good Indian was a dead Indian, they were a refreshing change.

Did the special point out the fact that Crockett and his patron President Jackson had a falling out over Jackson's Indian Removal Bill, or did I pick that up from another source?

They spent a couple minutes on the falling out and his reelection. Don't know how accurate it was, but I can understand his disscust with his constituents and then leaving Tenn. for Texas. All in all it seemed pretty informative. Alamo is on tonight on the History Channel at 9:00 eastern. Take care, Rick.

I think that all and all this show was pretty well recieved by the current re-enactor crowd that studies that time period and had good tech./historical imput. much better than the Mt. Man show done some years ago.

They did have a few technical mistakes in there that I caught. Like Boone priming the pan before loading the rifle; using a priming horn and caught sight of a percussion in one of the indian fights. On the Crockett part I saw a TC flintlock Hawken halfstock flash by during the attack on the indian camp. Any body catch any others? Take care, Rick.

I saw the Boone and Crockett specials several months back and while I didn't notice the anachronisms, ( I'm certain you guys are right ), historically I believe they treated them both pretty well. I have in my library several accounts of both Boone and Crockett and you can find differences between all of them. From our time and distance even serious researchers have a difficult time nailing facts down. Generally I believe the History Channel does as good a job as it can. Regardless, I enjoyed the show and will enjoy the Alamo tonight. I expect to see that Davy Crockett survived the battle and was executed by Santa Anna along with a few others. We'll have to watch and see!
