Hi FlintMan … you have to shoot this …
I bought this gun for $125.00 - including shipping. The seller had no idea what it was other than some later hobbyist's project. And I wasn't about to tell him what he had. LOL I only wanted the gun to get the Omani barrel from it for my collection. Most of these barrels showup in poor condition. Both my barrels are in good shape. As fate would have it, shortly after I purchased this gun, another Afghan flintlock Jazail showed up for sale on Gun______er with an Omani barrel. And a correct British lock. All in good condition. Of course, I had to have it. LOL So now I have two Omani barrels. If I was to use one for shooting, I would use the Afghan Jazail. I could just send the barrel to Bobby Hoyt and have a liner and new threaded type breech plug installed. The Omani barrel on the Jazail already has it's pan cut off during the period for use with a flintlock. That way, the barrel on this matchlock can remain true to form for a collector. I'm a bit leery of shooting the Omani barrel as is or just burnished. I know they were made in 2 or 3 sections and forge welded together. I worry that a barrel separation might occur during shooting. I might be a bit over-squeamish in this this regard. But that's my thinking. It's still very tempting to have a gun with one of these barrels in shooting condition.
