Pricey and/or hard to find.

Noticed a tube of Bore Butter going for almost $7.00 at Wally World; a dollar more at Dixie Gun. Seems alot higher than last year.

Searched Dixie Gun's site for wonder wads and only pulled up revolver and shotgun sizes....no .50 or .54! Bore butter and wonder wads (T/C equivalent) seems to have disappeared from Fox Ridge catalog as well...unless it's a small tube of BB in one of their overpriced kits.

The stuff's supposed to be all natural, so we can't blame the Arabs. I heard Ox-Yoke went out of business and that Ox-Yoke supplied T/C. After all T/C has invested in Bore Butter and natural lubes, I can't believe they would let their supplier go under without an alternate source. Glad I got some stashed.

Yeah, I'm a Bore Butter/Wonder Wad/Natural Lube believer ::.

RMC bought out OxYoke and products are now flowing again.

You can make it all yourself.
Get your felt from duro felt and punch out your own wads.
Make your bore butter with olive oil and beeswax, that's how they make it. Add some wintergreen oil for aroma.
It's easy and fun and you never have to worry about the supplier going out of business.

Supply and demand.

Ox-Yoke stumbles. Retailers know users will want to stock up. Prices go up.

If it's anything like gas prices the prices will stay up because now we're used to it and willing to pay, and the retailers like the added profits.

Makes you wonder why we ever stopped using spit for lube and solvent.

I have a good supply of NL1000 put away...bought a case and a half of tubes for $4.00/tube delivered a few years ago.

I'll tell you one that really impresses me now that I've tried it a couple of times is the Hoppes No.9 BP PLUS Solvent & Patch Lube.

I've usd it for a whole range session as a patch lube, then for a whole session to wipe the bore between shots using Goex 2F in my .58cal...very, very impressive stuff.

Bought a 1000 dry pillow ticking patches at a steal knowing I had this Hoppes...will start using them in January when I resume weekend range trips...the stuff is great in dry, low humidity conditions.

(and it smells great too!)

Thanks for the linky, Roundball. Good to know the stuff is still around. Will also be on the lookout for some of the Hoppe's BP Plus.

If you can point me to a recipe, Huntin Dawg, I'll give it a try. I've got a coupla bricks of beeswax. Making some would be more fun than paying.

Why did we stop using spit, well, "we" didn't. And untill I find something better, "we" won't. ::

Thanks, Roundball. Won the auction for 2 qts. of that Hoppe BP stuff. It better be good :D.

Good gracious...I just noticed you're from around the Finger Lakes region...that stuff only works below the Mason-Dixon line ya know !!

I've really been impressed with it so far...it's a fairly thick liquid almost as thick as maple syrup...the quart bottles are large glass ones...so I got a smaller squeeze/squirt type bottle and just refill it from the quart bottles, for ease in handling.

I open a bag of shooting patches, squirt the stuff on the patches and let it soak in for a minute, then lay them in a ziploc bag (I don't get them sopping wet, just good and damp).

Also, I take an empty margerine tub, and put a half inch of 2x2 cotton cleaning patches in it, soak that small stack, then add another 1/2" stack, soak it, another 1/2" stack, etc, etc.....when it's full to the top, I press down on the stack of patches and squeeze heavily...if there's excess, I add some more dry patches until the finished product is all cleaning patches damp with it but not wet...then snap the lid on the margerine tub and they're ready for the range.

Hope it works as well for you as it has for me...
