Wanting to get a bore light that'll fit down a .40cal bore...I recall seeing something about some different size shiny aluminum buttons that could be dropped down a bore that would reflect a flashlight beam, etc.

Anybody know their name or who carries them?

Or alternatives that fit a .40cal bore?

I found some little silver buttons in the hobby section of WalMart that I affix with a hot glue gun or super glue to a small piece of dowel, it works on my .32 to my .54.

flintlocks inc has led bore lites that are 25 cal and up that last 20 hours for 3.50 cheaper than batteries for the brass ones from traditions. I got one at a show they are great.

I have one that I bought at the Texas state shoot. It is very bright and is about 6mms in diameter. No name on it. It is sealed and they told me would it last about 20 hours. You may want to check Track of the Wolf or Cains.

I have also used the little "Bobber Lights" used for night fishing. You can buy these where fishing gear is sold. They work Ok not great but they are very small.

I've googled flintlocks inc but can't seem to find the one you may be referring to...if you know of a link I'd appreciate it

I saw those 20 hour deals advertised on thunderridge and tried to order some but the ordering part of the site is down or something...

Go to an auto supply store. Mac Tools makes a Stylus 3 Streamlight, about $20. Mine is 6 1/2" long and 3/8" diameter with a thicker turn switch that I filed down to about .390. This is a high intensity light, and I can drop it down the bore to the breech, backwards so the light shines to the muzzle. You can also shine it down the bore from the muzzle. Great for looking into screw holes, etc. A relative gave this one to me, used, about two years ago, so I don't know how long that battery lasts.

I will try to find the address for Marv or Starvin Marvin as he is known down in Texas. Some the Texas folks on forum should know how to contact him. He is the one who was selling them.
I just used mine today in a FL .32 it was a real fine rifle. The light however showed a small ring about 20" down. Now that horse has paid his keep.

You can drop a shiney ball bearing down the bore & then look at it with a mag light. Or that the lil brass bore light thay make & put it in a drill press & turn it down a bit & mine will go down a 40 cal barrel. I prefer the ball bearing to the lil green bore light.

But to be honest, I really don't care for bore lights at all, as they are misleading. You can wet swab a bore with some oil & shine a light or drop a bore light in it & it will look great. Swab it with some Ballistol & a tight jag & pull out Major crud & rust you couldn't see cause the oil will reflect the light & make it all shiney & hide dirt, crud, etching & minor rust pits.

Roundball,
I bought this from Reeves Ghering(sp) at Friendship last spring. The light mics .25" and is shaped like a pencil about 4" long. Its only disadvantage is that you can't see clear to the bottom of the bore. The advantage is its diameter; I haven't seen another one that would fit a bore under .40.

It's called "Coast LED Lenser". I've used mine in a .32.

(I looked at the web site but could not identify the light I bought from Reeves.)

It's Flintlocks Etc., not Inc. They have a website, but it's nothing more than a single page with their contact info for ordering a catalog, there are no products listed there.

I have had good luck by dropping a nickel 9mm pistol case downbore, with the base of the case up. Shine a light down the barrel and it lights up pretty good.

The ones I saw at thunder ridge are the same one I bought. I wonder if this flintlocks inc outfit does not have a website. They were there at a show in Illinois and sold all kinds of parts etc that they made of steel and brass. They made me want to build a fine flintlock rifle. Well that dream flintlock will happen when I take it on my dream elk hunt. When the kids are old enough to pay for it. Good luck with the website. BB
