I once examined an original Remington Zouave beutifully made . But being bored out for a trade gun is the same fate shared by surplus unused Whitworths .and doubtless umpteen now deemed desirable guns .The only reason the Manton carbines didn't go to Belgium to make up into trade guns was that the Belgiums reckoned them too good and the natives would then expect the same quality I think Bannerman got the locks which is why so many locks turn up detached . .Greene Carbine locks & parts never a barrel. Same story I suppose . Rudyard

Well, gentlemen, thanks again, the Zouave is going to remain rifled; a brother here on the Forum traded me a .58 rifle musket barrel 40" long that is in the hands of Mr. Hoyt for boring out smooth, calibers possible unknown, I just have to let the man work. I requested it be a 'Buck and Ball' bore, so we'll see what comes back! It appears to be a Springfield 1863, so I'll need to find a lock to work with the patent breech. Dang it Britsmoothy, see what you've made me do? LOL!
