Hey all, A buddy and I have jumped in both feet and bought non-resident PA tags and MZ tags with the intention of going on a late season "adventure". Although I hunted PA years ago, my old stompin' grounds are gone for the most part. the season runs 12/26 - 1/14 and we plan to do a Thurs. - Saturday hunt, at least.

A lot has changed in PA since I bought my last tag down there ( point restrictions, new WMU's, DMAP's and such). I know there is a ton of state land down there, but I would love to hunt more agri type land if possible. I have hunted the late season down there twice with a borrowed FL, and came out with 2 deer for 3 shots, but the thing I loved the most was the fact that I could hunt 2 days in PA and never cut a boot track. For those of you that have hunted in PA, you know what I mean.

Does anyone have any suggestions or insight into contacting the people involved with that DMAP thing? We are not locked into any one area in PA, and although I know I could do the state land thing, I would love to meet new people and hunt new ground. Any help would be appriciated. :thanks:

i'm in the 3-D wmu in pike and monro counties....i use the state forest lands fer the DMAP tags in the state lands of #31 - #32 - #34 - #35 - #266 - #267 - #648 in pike couny and then there are some in wayne county #927 - # 928....if yer looking in those counties in the north east....pm me to find out if ya want to do a hunt here....i get atleast 3 - 4 a year and last year i had 7 DMAP tags....6.00 bucks each for residents and 26.00 for non-residents like the doe tags...........bob

DMAP for pike and wayne counties....

The State Forest DMAP was under used last year. 'bout 1/2 of the permits for the section of forest where my cabin is located, were not sold last year. They are now available by mail from the forestry office send a letter w/ your backtag number & $6.00 for resident; $26.00 non res.

Later they are available walk - in at the same office.

Successful of not, DMAP tag report cards need to be mailed in. Otherwise you can't get a DMAP tage the nest year.

There is unrestricted muzzleloading in October too...

There is one restriction that should be mentioned. It's antlerless only and requires that the hunter have a valid doe license.

Okay, I guess there are trechnically two restrictions. I can't use my fingers to count when I'm typing.

Another early restriction for October (might have to do with Halloween being at the months end). You have to wear your pumkin costume. 250 square inches of flo orange is REQUIRED in the early season, with 100 required on the head. This is a good Idea though. After all there are those; " 'I want another chance at a deer' type guys out there." Our group has hunted in the past and ran into hunters who needed help to load and do other basics with a ML only because they borrowed the gun from a friend who couldn't go out. These are few and far between; but they are out there. Watch your top knot.....and all that it holds together. Good Luck!

Sorry, I meant that the type of muzzleloader was not restricted! You can use in-line, caplock & flintlock w/ any type projectile and scopes.

I did fail to mention the doe permit BUT w/ the DMAP program; anyone can get one for participating state land...

Just read the PA DCNR web page about DMAP and for the Delaware state forest you send a SASE [legal size] to the DCNR forestry office in Swiftwater [web page shows address]with the DMAP area number and your backtag number on the outside of the envelope. They will send you a coupon. As of this morning there was 340 out of 350 DMAP's left for the area I hunt..The coupons have been available since Monday by Mail and leftovers will be available on line, walk in & by mail on Aug 22.

people receiving coupons mail them & the $$$ to harrisburg to get the doe tag.
