Gents,
I'm considering buying this flask, any idea of its value. I assume it's a US style repro, am told it's for US Cavalry. Can anyone confirm if the decorations have any meaning or relevance to anything.

Thanks, Smokey.

Doh! I think this post should have gone in the Shooting Accessories Forum, sorry.

Smokey,
Just wondering what the seller has to
say about the flask? His info might at least give
you a starting point at which to start some research. If indeed it is a reproduction, and
in excellent condition, $20 to $30 I think would be a fair exchange. If it's original I would not
have a clue, but would do research before I
purchased it. Just MHO I hope you get a lot better opinions on your question than mine.
snake-eyes :hmm:

It looks to me as if it's a Zoauve Peace flask. You can buy new for $25.00 or so.
Was it used by cavalry, I reckon so, the original flask was meant to use for rifles, as opposed to the smaller colt and remington flasks issued with pistols.
IMHO I would think mounted units esp. confederate would use any type of powder vessel readily availible esp. towards the end of the northern invasion

Tow has them in their 2004 catalog (pg. 382) for $22.50 + S&H.
Knew I saw it somewheres!
"Model 1855 Peace & Friendship Flask- was used with rifled muskets,,,,, it holds 12 oz. of powder with a 60 grain spout."

Thanks guys, the owner cant tell me much apart from some vague reference to the US Cavalry.
It looks like I may have bid a new price on a used flask. Oh well, live & learn....
Smokey.

Gday Mate, I have the exact same flask and I brought mine from track the wolf for about $25US.
I also brought a half dozen different measures for it to at $2 US.
I also know for a fact that the local gun dealer here in Hobart sells new ones at $60+ australian.
I would pay no more than 25-30 australian and then only if its in good condition.
cheers
Rob

that flask new might cost au$45.00,if you can pick it up for au$25.00,second hand that would be ok.make sure its empty if its coming through the post

Rob,
I see your'e in Tassie. I'm up North and having great difficulty obtaining powder (see my thread on the General Muzzelloading forum re Aussie Members), do you have any suggestions.
