I do not know if this is the part of the forum for this question, but here it is:
During cleanin, tip of my ramrod broke off at the very bottom of the barrel. How to get it out quick, so the solution and cleaning patch do not corrode the barrel?
Thanks for your answers.

Is it brass or wood that is towards the muzzle? If wood, you might be able to use another ramrod with a ball puller on it to screw into the wooden piece. If brass, might have to use the ramrod like a loooong drill. Put a small drill into the end, like say for a #8 wood screw. drill hole into the brass then use your ball puller attachment and twist it into the previously drilled hole. Try then to pull/extract the lodged piece from the bore.

If that doesn't work get a CO2 discharger with the flintlock adapter, if it is a flintlock.

G'day,

If you are sure it is near or at the bottom I would consider putting a little ffffg in via the vent or under the nipple and shoot it out. :imo: It will not take a great deal of powder hence the pressures will not be high resulting in no damage to the bore. Being wood and brass this will not affect the bore either. If it not near the bottom then drive it down before firing to reduce the air space.

If you have a patent breach you should have even less problems getting a charge into the gun. :results:

Thanks guys.
My patch puller was on top of the rod, and tip of the rod broke with patch puller and patch on it. It was all the way down, and very tight, so I do not see any chance of putting some ffg through nipple hole and fire it out. I'll have to try harder with ball puller and new steel rod, and God help me. This is my GP rifle, and I have hunting season starting in 2 days, so I better get going on it.
Thanks again and God bless. :front:

A few grains of powder through the touchhole or nipple will blow it out with no problem. The jag then becomes a projectile, of course, so be careful!

You don't need much, you might be surprised at how little is actually needed. Good luck!

If you have a 1/4 28 touch hole liner or nipple replace with a zerk fitting then push the whole mess out with a grease gun. You will have a bit of a grease mess, though but this a absolutely safe method. BJH

Well, approx 30gr of ffg through the nipple hole, and it was in a second. :front:
Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions.
God bless!

30?
if there is a next time (or if you run a ball down without powder) use 4 or 5 grains.
that way you don't have to chase your jag so far down range when it comes out of the barrel:)

no next time with me, no more wood rods. :front:

I drill and pin them and never a problem just like Brain says, a 1/16 inch brazing rod works just fine.

Aluminum arrow blanks make good ramrods, lightweight and strong. The arrow inserts to accept the points match up with threads on jags and cleaning accessories. I've never had one of the glued in inserts yank out when pulling out a stubborn patch so have never bothered pinning them. The arrow blanks are also available in camo colors.

Well if worse comes to worse you can unscrew the breech plug and drive the rod out from the other end. If you do not know how take it out, then go to a gun smith, :m2c: but watch him do it because we all know that this will not happen again right? Time ... (it only happened to me twice in 15 years... Hold it in the same gun, in the same year...)Best regards Loyist Dawg
