Have a Brown Bess bayonet marked Osborn in script..not block letters.

It also has an L over 14 ...14 regiment(?) and a crown over 27 inspection mark and a X bending test.

Wonder if is orginal or a knock off. If orginal, when was it made.

I can't seem to find anything on the web with this marking.

Thanks

Uncle Paul

Uncle, since nobody has replied yet it would appear that you have stumped everyone. You may need to approach your research in a different manner.

According to The Brown Bess Bayonet by Graham Priest, Osborn & Gunby made bayonets from 1809-1811 for the British military.

You may now want to start researching the 14th Regiment to see what you can come up with as far as musket and equipment issues and methods of marking same. Just a thought.
