I just acquired a Pedersoli Brown Bess carbine yesterday as a self gifted early birthday present. Went to Track of the Wolf online to get balls, accessories etc. I also intended to get flints but the 1 1/;8 x 1 1/4 flints that the catalog said were the correct size for the Bess were out of stock. It appeared that all the other sized flints were in stock. Is there another good source for flints, or is there a widespread shortage of the large ones? Thanks. I'm new at both smoothbores and flintlocks so I'm sure there will be more questions coming.

The smaller 1" x 1 1/8" will work. If you want to try your hand at knapping you could get a couple of the 1 1/4' x 1 3/8" and see how it goes.

Thanks tenngun. I live in Alaska. I was just doing a little asking around today and it does appear to be some chert, but it seems to have been found mostly in the Brooks Range about 100 miles or so away from the road system. There is one place in that area that I frequent so I'm going to do some checking.
