I'm looking for a smooth bore kit. I'm shocked by all the prices of the Brown Bess kits so I'm leaning more towards a Tulle. I would like some opinions on both styles of guns. I was looking at the kits from Track of the wolf.

IMHO I think you will like the handling and carrying characteristics of the Tulle over those of the Bess. Most Tulle kits use 20 gauge (.62) barrels which is plenty big for all types of hunting.

I`ve never built a kit but if I were looking to build I would check out R.E.DAVIS kits and also the GUN AND MOULD SHOP kits. I have two fusils one in a 54 cal. and one in a 62 cal. and I would use either one for deer.

For hunting , a hunting gun is much better
the Tulle is excellent .
If your hobby is bayonetting people and
clubbing their head , the Bess is a better choice .

I first got the Bess and did so well with it that
I thought I could be even better with the Tulle..
It was good,,,but I kept the Bess..far more
dependable for me.

Not to jump on the band wagon but if you're not in a reenactment unit requiring a brown bess by all means get the french gun. The gun was designed with hunting in mind while the bess was made for military use. I've put together a mold and gun shop kit and Larry Zornes is a good man to do business with. The Davis kit looks good though and I believe their locks are made by the mold and gun shop.

I'd vote the same way. Unless the Bess fits into your persona or re-enacting use, go with a Tulle. Lighter, prettier (IMHO :v ) and plenty of power with either ball or shot. My 20ga. has accounted for geese and turkeys with shot, and I've never felt undergunned with the .62.
