For sale is a Brown Bess 3rd Model, India Pattern musket. Please note the title is incorrect, these are India Patterns.


$580, free shipping.


The kit requires a bit of work, comes from Rajasthan Armory. Same manufacturer as Veteran Arms. I do want to note that people like Military Heritage use AHU which produces cheaper Indian muskets, hence the price difference. Rajasthan is more expensive, higher quality. You won't find Rajasthans for sale at less than $750, without shipping.

Required Work:
-Drill the 1/16" touch hole.

Recommended Work:
-Stain the stock to a walnut color.
-Clean off the "travel grease" used to protect it on its long sea voyage across the Pacific.
-Take the lock apart and polish up the moving parts. It'll operate in its kit form, but buddy, this 1 hour of work makes a world of difference.
-Go get a bayonet, a cartridge box and some flint!


I know my old ads were more descriptive, but after I got three pulled, I got tired of typing it out again. Happy to answer any questions you all have. No FFL required obviously, so it ships right to your door. I've built about 20 of these kits over the years, and they're fantastic ways to get into shooting military-grade muzzleloaders, without spending $1,700 on a Pedersoli. Heck, you could get three of these for that price!

Sure do! I figured no one would be curious about that side, since all the details are going to be on the lock.


EDIT: Just want to be clear that is not a crack, it's a score in the wood. Looks like it was drug past a table or tool or something by someone a bit too careless. Nothing that affects the function.

It looks to have a crack from the front lock screw to the forward pin. Has this been repaired? What are the chances of having more detailed pictures of the musket?

No, you can purchase as many as you like. I can also discount the price for multiple, since shipping is factored into that price.

So to be clear, that is not a crack, it's a score in the wood. About 1/10" deep. Sanding would take care of it, looks like somebody accidentally drug it along the side of a table or tool bench. Nothing that affects performance of the piece. If anything is cracked or seriously broken, I mark it clearly as such and sell it at a significant discount.

No, that is the kit itself. I call it a 'kit' because you still need to drill the touch hole, and I'd highly recommend more work like staining the stock, polishing the lock pieces, etc. It arrives at your door exactly as it appears in the photo.

No worries at all. Just wanted to be sure everyone was on the same page before someone bought something and was disappointed. They are all full firearms, they just need some work and a bit of elbow grease before they're range ready. Wish I could have found bayonets for all of them but the bayonet manufacturer for Loyalist is proving very difficult to track down.

So IF that photo of the sideplate is the same as the Bess photos in the OP, then that is a 3rd Model Bess, aka the India Pattern, not to be confused with the SLP aka Short Land Pattern Bess aka 2nd Model Bess, which the Pedersoli tries to copy.

Do you have a comparison photo? I'm afraid I'm not nearly as familiar with my Besses as I am with my Springfields. I placed an order for the 2nd model, but I suppose it's possible they messed up.
