Good afternoon. I've got myself a conundrum. I was out with a buddy shooting my GPR. After the first shot I attempted to brush the barrel as I always do and the brush along with the cap its screwed into came off the rod about a third way up from the breach.

I'm assuming it will have to go to a smith to remove the brush. Unless someone has a different idea? Any thoughts would greatly be appreciated.

Frustration

Get some thin wall tubing, copper or stiff plastic like pex etc that just fits inside your bore, push it down over the brush and it should capture it inside the tubing hopefully and let you pull it out, just make sure you have enough to reach the bottom of the bore and have enough to hold onto sticking out.

I did a search online and I found something similar. I took an empty 35 Whelen case (an 06 or similar case would work the same)

Knock out the primer - Cut the case neck off at the shoulder - open up the flash hole slightly - Feed a strong string through the flash hole - Tie a large knot at the end so its stopped at the flash hole - Drop the case down the bore - with tap the end of the rod with a hammer so it like you said captures the brush - pull the brush out.

It worked just as noted. Very thankful

Clickwhoosh,
Just a suggestion: When you get the barrel free of parts install a pin through the cap to permanently secure it to the RR. All my RRs have pins in the tips.
Flintlocklar

If your tip comes off when using a jag, it's no big deal.. You just shoot it out...But if you use a brush, life gets a whole lot more complicated....

Try not to lose your hair pilrgrim.. :haha:

We must see a stuck brush thread once every two months.

I stuck a brush my first cleaning session. Never used a brush on a muzzle loader gun again.

That's a great idea. Glad it worked, and thanks for posting.
I don't know what it is about Brushes. Some folks just can't seem to leave'em alone. :youcrazy:
Last week I was at the range and noticed the fellow across from me on the loading bench was "struggling" to get his rifle properly loaded, and reliably firing. :surrender: I offered a few suggestions, things for him to consider changing which were graciously accepted. Then I noticed he was using a brush between shots. :hmm: I asked him about it and apparently someone else had told him "that's what you're supposed to do".
I advised him that there's a good chance doing so will one day leave you with a brush stuck in the barrel. To my great surprise..he told me "oh yea, I know...I got one stuck last month. Had to have a gunsmith pull the breech to get it out." :shake: At that point I figured anything else I could offer to Nimrod Wildfire was going to be a waste of both his time and mine and so long as he wasn't being a threat to himself or any of the rest of us...I'd best just let him go on and do it his way. :idunno:

yup

Yeah.....I've never used a brush on the M\L's. Patches fitted snuggly seem to work fine.
