I've used them in 1:48 twist barrells and have had fairly good results. Drop the load to 70gr and start from there. Have you tried a Wonder Wad on top the powder first. I found that the hollow points will fly several inches higher than the round nose bullets. I was getting around two inch groups at 50 yards. I never hunted with them so I never shot at any longer distances. They also did good in a not so perfect bore.

I shot a box (50) of ball-ets, but didn't get good accuracy. My rifle (which also has a 1:48 twist) seems to like PRB better than ball-ets.
Some people report good results with the Buffalo ball-ets, though. Give them a try. It might work for you.
Another option would be the Hornady PA conical. It's a short conical very similar to the Buffalo ball-et. I've never shot them, but think they run for about $7 per box (50) at stores like Gander Mountain and the like.
Buffalo bullets are a bit more expensive, at about $10 per box of 50.
If you cast, you could try some Lee REAL bullets. Lee molds are inexpensive. If you don't cast, there are on-line sources for cast REAL bullets and Maxiballs at reasonable prices.

The best bullet out of my .50 Bobcat is a 370 grain Maxi-Ball.
I shoot Ball-ets out of my .54 Trade Rifle with 1:48 twist with great results using a stout charge of 100 grains of powder or more.
The hollow base on the Ball-et has a rather thick skirt that needs a good charge to expand it properly.
By far though the Maxi-Ball is the best in my Bobcat.
I cast my own REAL's in 320 grain and the Bobcat hates them.

My .54 caliber Mountain Stalker by CVA is the same thing as a Bobcat. I also had a terrible time getting the thing to shoot roundball until I increased the charge to 85 grains of Triple Se7en FFg and used a wonderwad between the patched ball. The accuracy then came in extremely well. Good enough in fact to shoot three deer last year with it. The furthest being 60 steps.
CVA also makes a conical although I have never shot them. I do shoot Buffalo Bullet Co. Ball-ets from my .50 caliber Hawkins with excellent results. I find that they need a good strong charge to fly true, but that 245 grain ball-et seems to have some nice down range power.

Well if you're not yet confused I'll add :m2c: I've tried conicals, ball-ets, minies,wonder wads, and sabots in my Hawken .50. I get the best accuracy with a plain old PRB on top of Pyrodex RS. Believe it or don't. For me that's what works, I don't know why. Guns are like women, I'll leave it at that.

eace: :blah: :imo: :results:I like ball-ets for target shooting but I am not impressed with performance on deer. Have you considered Buffalo's Maxi Ball-et? I was doing some range tests with .54's using sabots and conicals but my best accuracy results were with Maxi Ball-ets. They worked equally well with pellets, RS and FFg. I was impressed and intend to try them hunting later this year.
