Six foot barrel!

The advantage is you can trip the lead goose and then shot several as they extract themselves from the resulting pile-up.

Got to thinking about load development in this long barreled Mama and wonder if anyone has any actual first hand experience regarding the effects of such a long barrel.
NOTE:
I can speculate and dream up theories like anybody else, but what I'm looking for is anyone with actual hands on experience...not somebody's 3rd cousin who told a friend who told a homeless guy who told a cop who happens to shoot smoothbores, etc...and definitely not interested in any claims of any 'formulas'.

FOR EXAMPLE:
Does a "typical" .12ga load produce the same results in this 72" barrel as it does in a 36" barrel...and I don't mean micro differences...I mean by and large would the same .12ga load give the same results in both barrels?

Or...would the powder charge have to be beefed up in the 6' barrel to handle the larger bore volume to keep the velocity up until muzzle exit?

Another thought on the piece. The butt plate appears to be thin metal & hammer formed????? Am I on the right track? It's drop dead beautiful at any rate. Don't recall seeing anything like it.

Paul

Butt plate is 1/4" wet formed veg-tan leather nailed on with 19th century tacks

Looks like you need to put some oil on the barrel and lock. It's starting to rust.....

Just kidding. It looks like a well-cared for antique. How is it to clean that long barrel?

Cleaning will require a LOT of room and no low hanging fluorescent lighting.

I didn't see that one coming. Definately can see a future chunk gun with a leather butt on it.
