I am starting a new project and doing a series of videos building it. I built a 4 bore rifle for myself a little while ago and it turned out nice. Shooting it is a lot of fun. I decided to build another one. This one will go up for sale when it is finished. I got kicked off You Tube a while ago because I am "dangerous to the community" so the videos will be on Rumble and will be available for download on Patreon. A new video gets posted to Rumble every weekend until it is finished but I put the videos on Patreon as soon as I finish the editing. Here is the first one.

Part 1

Every time I do a series of videos I get a bunch of questions about tools. So I did a video just about the tools for building a gun. Of course each person will have entirely different opinions about tools. This is just what works for me.

I am really excited to watch this series. still waiting to get my 8 bore barrel and make one of these crazy guns of my own. You mentioned to avoid curly maple but I am finding it hard to find a source that explains how much weaker a figured piece of wood is vs a straight grained one. But maybe it won't matter as much as recoil energy will be down around 100 ft.lb. to 170 ft.lb. which is quite a bit less than the 4 bore. Also wondering if you ever thought about going in the opposite direction and building a really slim pea shooter of a rifle.

8 bore is going to be around 200 ft/lbs of recoil. That is still quite a lot. I would go with English or Turkish walnut on that just because they were typically European guns. Claro walnut would work also, but avoid black walnut. Straight grain maple would work great. Curly maple is not all suitable for it. The stock that I am using for the 4 bore is not at all suitable either. Good amount of figure and even a bit of burl. But there are ways around it to make it work. I will be getting to that later in the videos.

Hey where did you get the barrel made ?

LD

The gun Works sells them. They are partnered with Oregon barrel co. under the tapered barrel section they list everything from 32 caliber to 2 bore.
Barrel was made by Oregon Barrel.
THANKS

I want to build an amuzette, but I don't want to hijack the thread either, so enough on my thoughts for now...
