Here's my first coat of oil. :)

I think it's English? Hope it comes out great!

I love staining stuff! Nice color, will really glow when done.
It's supposed to be French.
At least that's the way it was advertised and sold to me.

There is no stain on this.
Just Tung oil.

What seems like a month ago I ordered a belt hook from Middlesexvillage.
I never got an email notification or anything from them.
Today I got tired of waiting and went to the hardware store and bought a piece of 1/2" stock that I was going to make my own hook out of.
When I got back home from a literal 20 minute trip I find this on the front porch. 😄
Now to clean it up some.

I made a new stopper for my powder horn.
I tried to carry over the design from the horn.
It's kinda rough but we'll call it "folk art". 😄
I also pulled that plug I made before out and I've got another one in the works.

This is such a cool pistol, can you please share how hard it was to do the ramrod ferrule and barrel pins?

could they be done with a Dremel or hand drill? The pins are the part that seems like the hardest.

Have you fired it yet?!

A flint smooth bore pistol like this one with a stiff load pushing fine shot , would be perfect in summer for legally "relocating" those 44 inch timber rattlers in our Pa. woods.

Wasn't too hard really. Just get yourself a caliper and take your time.
I'm not sure about rifles but with this pistol there isn't even a quarter inch web between the barrel and the ramrod tube.
It was a bit nerve wracking but I did it just fine.
I have a big floor standing drill press.
Make sure your material is level and your drill bit is perpendicular and where it needs to be.
You can use a press if you have one or a hand drill if you have a steady hand.
On mine if I had it to do over I would have soldered my front barrel lug a little bit further back.
As it is I ran out of real estate for the front ramrod thimble.
They are actually sharing a hole. I hope it doesn't cause any issues.
Take a look at my pics and you'll see what I mean.
As far as inletting the thimbles is concerned I used a tiny chisel and an exacto knife.
The holes go all the way through from the barrel channel to rr channel and vice/versa.
I had to file the lugs on both down a bit to be even with the channels above and below them.
Obviously you don't want the rr thimble lugs touching the barrel and vice/versa. :)

Here's some better pics of my horn project.
I pulled the plug that I had made and I am making another one. I wasn't totally happy with it.
I will post pics of it when I get further along.
I smoothed my stopper out some and got the relief a little better. :)

Well guys, the only thing left to do is a test firing I guess.
After a coat of wax and a quick buffing I went ahead and put the pins and screws in it.
It all went together pretty well.
It looks pretty good though. I'm pretty happy with how it looks.
Now I'm trying to decide if I want a little more sheen on the finish or not.
It throws sparks when you drop the hammer so hopefully it will fire no problem.
