Hi,

I'm new to the forum and own 3 TC's-an old flintlock Renegade, a Scout, and an Omega. I'm happy with the first two, the Omega is a pain. Aside from having no "soul", I'm tired of dealing with the new set of problems - hard Sabot seating, 209 "crud ring", etc. I'm thinking of replacing it with an H&A underhammer built by my local gunsmith with parts purchased from Bruce at Blue Grouse. My intended use would be deer hunting in the early PA muzzleloader season, as well as some casual target shooting. I'd like it to be both beautiful, but functional with some modern amenities such as:

Stainless action and barrel-Quick release scope with some good open sights-nice wood with long forend. This is what I want it to look like:

Trying to keep the project under $1000, partially funded by the sale of my Omega. Am now trying to decide the barrel configuration.

round or octagonal? twist rate for conicals and sabots? 32 inch or shorter?

Any advice or input would be appreciated.

Thanx in advance,
Jimbo

Red,

The October season allows inlines and percussion with any kind of projectile .45 cal and above. The late Dec-Jan season is flintlock only. They changed the law about 2 years ago to allow all projectiles in this season as well. Here is a link to the PA Game commission website:
