Okay,
We are settled in at my mother in law's house, temporarilly. Ms. Audrey went out today to interview for a church job. I will be calling the pastor tomorrow about a role for me.
In the meantime the M in L and I were cleaning out her shed today so I can set up shop while we are here and begin the work on the matcher in the next few days. I can't say when new pics will appear.
Oh, yeah, I gotta go to my profile and get that south Jersey off my avatar.

May God bless and lead you to your new post.
I been there and done that.

Thanks, Gentlemen,
The shed, my working space, is thoroughly cleaned out. Now I just need to get the garage cleaned out. Then I can go to working on the gonne. Tomorrow, Ms. Audrey and I are going to get our PA driver's license so I can get my hunting license and ML tag and apply for a doe permit. Maybe later this week!

I am looking forward to seeing more pictures of your Matchlock. I just got into flintlocks this year prior all I had owned were precussion. Maybe I might try to make a matchlock in the future who knows.

Good luck with your job hunting the Good Lord needs the help these days.

Thanks Guys,
We now have temp PA driver's licenses in our pockets. The 'can' came today from the disposal company. I intend to concentrate on the garage tomorrow and Saturday, taking some time to get out some more resumes'. I think I will make monday the day I get to the gonne.

I may hunt deer with it. I certainly will shoot paper and steel gongs with it.
Compared to a flinter the matcher is fairly simple. Besides the shaping of the stock is not as demanding. There is no fancy carving, etc., so go for it.

Okay, I finally got back to doing some work on the gonne. I did some sawing along both sides of the barrel channel. Then I sawed some on the width of the buttstock, straightening the architecture a bit.
first pic is a straight on shot. I just got the plate installed today.

A shot from down the barrel. If you compare with earlier pics you may see the thinned buttstock and the trimming of the 'ears' at the barrel breach.

This shot will show you how thin the wood is along the barrel channel

Hopefully, tomorrow I will get the goodies inside inletted. Then the trigger

I got the internals inletted today. Then I started on the trigger bar and got that basically working. Here are two pics, one showing the dog laid forward, and one showing the dog in the pan. If you look close you can see the different positions of the the trigger bar. It doesn't mover that much.

I hogged out a lot of wood today. I use my hand ripsaw to initiate things. That red maple is so hard I can't push a chisel or gouge through it. I must use my mallet. I can barely push a plane or spokeshave through it.
Here are three pics that show you the shaping to date. Oh, yes, I changed my mind. It now has a trigger, not a trigger bar. The bar put my hand back too far. This is because I made the inside of my lock exactly opposite from what it should be.

Hogged out is the word here. Anybody know where I can get some ready made scrapers of high quality. This sems like a proper gonne to scrape finish.

Woodcraft has some pretty reasonably priced scrapers. They even put them on sale every once in a while. It shouldn't be too hard to make some out of an old saw blade.

Bioprof,
This Woodcraft, do they have a website?
And yes, I thought of cutting up some old saw blades. I think I just threw all my old ones away. But the Mother in Law has a few, heh, heh!

Looks like a lot of work there volatpluvia, i`m sweating just looking at the pics. :haha:
Nice

Making me tired, too! Think I'll take a nap. Looks like one of those round, two handled barrel channel, file gouge raspy looking thingies is what's needed here......or a young apprentice!

Thanks, Bioprof, I will check itout immediately.
PP and TNHG, Because of the hot and humid weather we had until through yesterday I DID sweat buckets while working.
The gonne is a bt smoother and more rounded now because of yesterday morning's work. I am ready to start with the coarse file.
I have discovered now since I have used the blade on the stock that there is a good bit of curl along the length of the stock. I am pleasantly surprised at just how much curl there is.

Bioprof,
Many thanks. I just ordered the four piece set of handheld scrapers. They should arrive about the time I am done filing and I will be ready for them.

grzrob,
Great to hear from you!
Nah, It simply means that I got the M in M's shed cleaned out and got my tools together so I can work. We continue to search for a situation.
I smoothed up the buttstock today with the coarse bastard file. It reminds me now of either the fins on a Buck Rogers space ship or the fins on a '58 plymouth, Har, Har!
I got notice today, that my order for the scrapers went out to the manufacturer.
