After taper put inlet black on the bolster and bottom of barrel and start letting her down slowly until the tang starts gettin close ...take down them sides as mentioned ... What will happen as the lug starts getting down in there is the curve at the lug comes into play ...you keep inletting it until youvstart seeing black on the backb edge as the bend in the lug starts touching and you'll see the barrel start pushing forward when its tapped down ...

It’s a joy to watch!
I am so surprised anyone even cares let alone enjoys it . Its fun for me to.post it and cool to chat with like minded folks like yourself .If it helps anyone at all in their building that would be wonderful . Like I told a local friend here ... I never get to talk flintlocks here at home , this forum is great .

I love to watch true craftsmen at work. Years and years ago, when I used race, there was a fabricator that built a couple of cars for me. Now I can weld, but this guy was an artist. I could watch him for hours when I had the time.
A good welder is amazing to watch ... I always wanted to.learn to weld ...the whole " living like an Amishman " thing gets in the way of that though ! LOL

... Keep inletting down in bolster cavity , knock that corner off at the curve and keep taking off black till the tang gets close and you can scribe lines at tang ...when tang gets this close time to bend tang

Put the barrel in its position and down at it . Figure where to bend it , usually about middle then little tweek 3/4 way ... It can be adjusted later too .

...the curve in the breech bolster will start coming into play , keep knocking it off and when tang gets close enough , start tracing the sides , stay inside those lines ... Later the end will touch and you can trace it too ....little at a time ....

Throughout the barrel bedding , breech inletting process ...as you are knocking the barrel down be sure and always knock it this way , toward the breech ... You have to get that gap out at the breech , its unsightly ....same with gap at tang end ....

i still think you should teach a bunch to build trade guns or at least do what Dave did with Maria ,keep the trade going Rob don’t let all your talent go to waste . pass it down to someone who will take and do something with it like carry on your love for the trade guns.Just thinking out loud but it is a thought.
