Wow that was fast, you drill your touch hole 5/64 then 3/32 half way on your guns ??
I can't remember the drill bit sizes , correct names ! LOL ! First drill , all way through is .078 then half way is .092 . it cones it . ... And T.H. position is critical ...

It did go pretty fast. The shorties are bit easier. She's in shootin order right now so I'm excited to shoot er . Gonna do that tomorrow . Wish I could think of something goofey to shoot for ya , LOL ! Let's see 150 in lock , 18 in side plate , 45 in barrel , bolts ...Cool ! I got less than $240 in this sucker ! Bad thing is I think its gonna look really bad , oh well , its mine ... Those cracks in the stock are extensive and I think they are gonna stick out like a sore thumb after I fill them in ... And that buttstock !!! That wood is harder than Wang leather !!! I can't hardly work it !! Burl !! Its a b%-%#@ !! Oh well , it'll be ugly but ....itll shoot ! :). I do need to put it down for awhile though and get back on the Fusil de Chasse ... but I am gonna shoot it first ... I have a gun again ! YEAH !!!! :D

If you want to keep it don’t make it ant prettier or apply finish. If you do someone will surely want to buy it!

LOL ....funny you would say that . Been thinking about my buddy Eddie Myers . He refused to finish any gun he wanted to keep ...he and his wife always needed the money but he dearly wanted to keep his NW trade gun ...so he never finished it . Poor folks got poor ways ...

Rob just a question. How far in front of the face of the breach plug do you drill your hole...?
As close as possible ! Now ... That is the optimum spot for fast ignition though some will argue it till they are blue in the face ...and I will ignore them ... When lock design , pan flash guard , like ng breech plugs and touch hole d liners come into play complications set in . Here's a can of worms ...Im not crazy about Chambers locks , his springs and frizzens are great though... A couple reasons but the biggest one is it designed for a touch hole liner and it sets the T.H. way too far forward .

I think there’s some truth to what you said,I have one with whit lightening liner and one drilled similar to what you do and with the one with the hole drilled you hear one bang the one with liner you hear two bangs one after the other.your explanation reminds me of my dad he always would say if it ain’t broke dont fix it.Some of the old ways are still better than the new ones but you know some people just can’t leave well enough alone lol.
Buy the way I really appreciated the videos Rob thank you sir.😀 have a good day .

Rob thanks for your input. That is my thoughts exactly. Of the guns I have built. I try to put the vent hole about a 16 th in front of the breach plug.
It seems if a vent liner is so much better ? Why'd they wait almost 300 years to do it...?

That wood in the buttstock is too crappy , unstable so I drilled it , and put in a steel rod to keep it from Coming apart later . Slathered the steel rod in colonial slow set epoxy . I'll keep the cracks from gettin bigger , coming apart and keep me from constantly worrying about same. :)
