Cal.61, take a trip over to www.n-ssa.org, they are primarily a CW group but many members have expertise in longarms of the 1840's, 50's, 60's. Post either under the General forum or CW weapons areas. You may be pleasantly surprised with responses. You can post as a guest there. Uncrichie...

Uncrichie, n-ssa.org Seem to be a comprehensive site and a complement to this extremely good one we are visiting here.
It sure has the potential as an information source.

:thanks:

Hi! The Computer Fairy let me back on line,
I have tried three times to send you a message but every time some thing has messed me up, so I will try Later. I may not be on line for a while as I have to take my computer to the shop to get it fixed.

If you make a tapered bullet, the base is groove dia. less one or two thickness of paper, depends on how tight you want it. Up toward the nose ,just before the ogive, the dia. is the bore dia. less one or two thickness of paper, depending on how tight you want it. If the mold is a little to small you can polish it out a little with emery cloth till you get the right size. When the powder ignites, the bullet will be up-set filling the grooves. If you use too much powder it will up-set the whole bullet and all you will have is a slug of lead not really a bullet. It the bullet up-sets to much the gun will not be very accurate. :results:

The half reamers are used like a drill. You can only go straight in. I have a floating tool holder that I use when I use a half reamer. To make a mold you can step drill the cavity, then finish with the half reamer.

Cal. 61;

I would get some round balls,.600 diameter balls, 1f or 2f powder and cotton patch material. I would use different thickness of cotton patch. If you have to go to the fabric shop with your micrometers and get different thickness of material and start shooting. I think that you can get it to shoot good enough that you can go hunting. You can make noise on the 4th of July if you do celebrate the 4th of July

I would at least try to see what I can do with it. It should be fun and if it doesn't work, you can try to find another gun to shoot.

I would try putting a wad over the powder and then load the ball and patch. Orrville Redanbocher popcorn box work fine (just kidding).

I never thought about it but if you put some popcorn down the barrel on top of the powder and then the ball, you can have some popcorn after each shot. :crackup:
Just kidding. :kid:
