Howdy Folks!
I aint gettin any younger and I have a bad knee. So, I am thinking ahead and making a cane for my future use.
I call it a rifle cane (It won't shoot) because, I imagine, it is what a talented veteran would have made from his old and broken war rifle to serve him in his old age. It has a Tennessee iron rifle butt for the top and the matching trigger guard as well. The shaft is hexagonal like a riffle barrel.

This is my first attempt at making a cane and my first try at silver inlay!

For the past few months I have been doggedly working on it... step by step
Attached are photos from concept to where I am in its process.
I plan to add Photos as I continue to develop my cane to completion...

Here is a link to some videos of close ups the silver inlay and wood working...

I have already stained it and I am on my 6th coat of Truoil...
and it already looks GREAT!

Man that finish lays down thin and S L O W!
I can only do 2 coats per day with 8 hours dry time each coat!
It looks like its going to need 10 coats or more before it starts turning into a glass finish.... sigh...

Slow and steady wins the race...
