Butch's Bore Shine

Anybody use Butch's Bore Shine as a patch lube or to wipe your barrel between shots at the range? Your opinions are greatly appreciated. I am also going to try Dutch's Moose Milk.

All I've ever used for 40 years is spit. I never seem to run out and it's Organic!!

Why pay good money for something you already have or can make ?

I saturate my patch ticking with ballistol, let it dry then when I load I use spit. I have found nothing else better in over 30 years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I haven't tried it as a patch lube, or for anything regarding a muzzleloader, as I don't know if it contains petroleum products.
I have used it, sparingly, on unmentionable guns. It works great for cleaning the worst of bored, but, I say sparingly because it smells like it is killing you with every inhalation while using it. But it cleans incredibly well.
I also don't really see a reason to use it as a "lube" as it isn't that slick and there are better, cheaper, more proven things, readily available.
It is funny you bring it up now though, as I have been thinking lately of trying it as a bore solvent in my smoothie. Since my last shooting session i have a tiny bit of black crud visible around the corners of where the breech plug meets the barrel walls. No amount of water, hot water, hot water with dawn, and use of breech scraper seems to be removing it. Never have I had this issue before, but, this is one of the very few times I've ever swabbed between shots. Was thinking of taking advantage of Butch's excellent cleaning ability, then many, many more hot water rinses.

Try a 10 minute soak with MAP. (Murphys, Alcohol and Peroxide) The peroxide component will dissolve the fouling and then it will rinse out.

If I remember right, Lyman used to pack a bottle of that Butch’s Bore Shine in the box in with their rifles? Was a white plastic bottle with a yellow label.

Bought a GPR and a Deer Stalker way back when NIB and a bottle of the stuff came with it.

Anyway, I never did use it. I put my samples on the prize blanket for a prize during one of our monthly shoots.

Yes, this. Don't keep it to yourself. As I said, the stuff smells like it is taking years off your life as well as it is cleaning your gun.

BBS, if the black powdah 'BP' version, is awesome. I routinely clean with just water, then maybe some BBS BP at the end, if that arm is to be put away. When using th BBS BP solvent, I often challenge those w/ 'clean' barrels (other methods) $10 that BBS BP will pull more out ... haven't lost yet!

Butches Bore Shine sure does smell nasty but it cleans. Don't think I would use it for patch lube. Kind of smells like those old olive drab tins of military bore cleaner with all the mercury in it ! Now that stuff cleaned !

BBS for BP is allegedly the solvent (elixir?) that the US Army cleans large howitzers with. All I know is that it is a phenomenal BP cleaner, if/when wanting 'more' than H2O, plus it smells much better than Ballistol!

I clean my Howitzer with a garden hose.
