I've always had good luck at my local scrap yard. It's one of the smaller places run by a guy and not a big company. He just tells me to pick through the scrap barrel and find what I want, weighs it, and tallies it up at whatever the going rate is. I think I paid 1.50/pound last time, but that's been a year or so.

It's a mixed bag though, so you have to pick through for the clean soft stuff.
