This morning at the gunshow a seller had a Cabela's Hawken carbine for sale for $100.00. I checked it out and it was loaded and has a couple of small hairline cracks in the lock panel, one at the top and one at the rear. He asked if I wanted it and I told him about the cracks and he said he'd take $80.00 for it. I bought it, took it home and pulled the load. It was a sabot without the bullet and I'm not sure which powder substitute it was. I cleaned it out and will say the previous owner had done a fantastic job of upkeep on the rifle. It doesn't have a chrome lined bore or a patchbox like the full size Hawken that I have by them though.
What's the best way for repairing the cracks?
