You gentlemen are pure class. Though I've never met you all, I am proud to consider you friends. :)

My prayers and admiration will be with your son. I personally witnesed the attack on the WTC on 9/11. Please convey to him that this is a noble cause and the fight MUST be taken to the enemy before he stikes America again. God Bless Your Marine,
he will protecting our way of life and he has my deepest RESPECT!

Ask your son to send back pictures to share so that we can support you. My son is in the service (god bless 'em) and will be off for AIT in July, 05. I know where he will go because of his job classification: Iraq. I asked him to take pictures and send them back on these two principles:

1) He is going to experience historic things and is a part of history, record it for the future.
2) I want to share his experiences and that is one way to do so.

I am really very nervous about his decision, but it is his, not mine and I am proud. A good friend of mine lost his son over there. We had discussed the possibility of a loss and both of agreed the chances were numerically slim...his son died. I am haunted by the words we spoke and a dark fear grips me. I cannot shake it, but I will not let my son know of my fear.
Yes, I'll say a quick prayer for you and yours and the hope he comes home alive.

Blahman ~ The mission you have given your son is a good one. A photographic record of his tour will be something that cannot be measured in tangible value.
Like, Sachemlonghunter, I served during peacetime. As an Infantryman, I knew that I could wake up one day and find myself being shipped off to a foreign and hostile land. It was a worry I had, and one I'm certain my parents had as well. I was ready and willing to go, but it was the luck of the draw that it never came to fruition.
As a parent now, I suddenly find myself in that same position of worry. Your description of a dark dread is accurate. I hope and pray the years of lessons involving stealth and attention to detail while hunting, as well as those his DI's will soon teach him, will keep him healthy. It is more fearsome to me now because the strained relationship we have had.
At any rate, I am mighty proud of him. Thanks to everyone here who have served.

I teach Sunday school with 30 6th graders and once a month I have around 60-90 1st-4th graders for a childrens church. We are always praying for those in the military and the their families. So let your sons and daughters know that they are being prayed for and thanks for their sevice.

My son's unit has just been called up for duty in Iraq.
He leaves on the 19th. Would those of you who are in the habit please say a good word to Christ for him.

Would be glad to. What's his name?

Walker357- I didn't realize your son was in one of the units getting called up. May he stay safe.
Gloria's daughter , Becca, is with the Sullivan unit. They packed "care packages" for troops shipping out, last month,at drill. She can't be deployed until after she graduates high school.
I'll e-mail the family to let them know.
GobblerKnob- Glad to here your son has straightened up his life. May he be safe, as well. My brother was a Marine in Vietnam. Door gunner. He got wounded twice. Couldn't keep that Huey up for nothing. He tried to send home pictures, but all came out black. He thinks they were cencored and destroyed.
My nephew was in Iraq for 15 months. With today's technology, he e-mailed pictures to his sister and had her put them on a CD. I got a copy of some of them. Some really beautiful scenery and buildings. I guess if you look, you can find beauty in the harshest of places.
My brother said Vietnam was a beautiful country, especially from 1,000 ft. If only it wasn't run over with them little #*%&@.
Again, may all our troops return home safely. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.

HEY, I JUST WENT UP TO A .40 cal.
