I have a capote I want to consider selling here on the site, I’ve read over the guidelines but was hoping someone could help me clear a few things…If I set up PayPal do I wait till the money shows up to ship the item or… is cash, check, or usps money order better? Do I wait to ship until the money is cleared? Is everything solely based on an honor system where I pm the buyer? Just a little confused on how it works, what’s been you experience from listing to selling? Thanks guys.

Me?? Wouldn't ship till I got the $$$ in my hand, just in case.
I have been known to ship "before" getting paid but it's usually a small amount and I figure if I didn't get paid, they needed it more than I did anyway. :(
Most folks are good to go but than again, after seeing some of the snide remarks folks are posting if you ask a simple question, I wouldn't want to have anything to do with them. So, CYA, just in case. ;)

I only use US Postal MOs for items worth of any value, say more than you'd like to or would be willing to lose. Sometimes I take checks, if the item isn't of too much value. Sometimes I wait for the checks to clear, and sometimes (like if I see the person has been posting here for years) then I'll ship it right out. So always, ALWAYS search on the name of the person allegedly buying the item and see if they line up or appear legit. NOTE on other sites, non-actie people have had their accounts hacked and swindlers have tried to buy items under that other person's name - but shipped to their own address (often fake or transient) - using bogus payments (Zelle).

IMHO if you aren't going to use PayPal a lot - I wouldn't bother. Also note that when using PP 'Fireds & Family' to avoid fees - you don't get any purchase protection, Unfortunalely online - all over sporting and other sites!!!! - too many are being ripped off by people using Zelle payments - so BEWARE!

To me, US Postal MOs give you and the Buyer assurance, as you can verify the MO by calling the automated USPS number. This tells you 'where' the MO originated, so if you're shipping it to AZ but the MO was originated/purchased in MA ... yeah, I'd be more than a little suspect, LOL! Plus as a Seller, you can verifiy the MO water marks, the colored threads and other security features that are built into them.

Just my experience ...

Thank you, usps money order seems the safe way to go

They don't just do that with non active accounts. Last week I checked the classifieds section only to see that I had apparently posted a couple guns for sale at unbelievably low prices. Of course I had to report myself after I changed my password and posted on those threads that I had not posted those items.

WOW ... lesson to all ... make sure to use a SECURE password, huh?

About USPS-MO - - - a word of caution -- these MO do not come with a tracking number ( like a package ) unless you send by priority mail AND ask the counter person FIRST. So no matter which side of the deal you are on it pays to be safe. Sending a MO for a significant amount of $$$$ you need a tracking number.
Recently I did this and got scammed - I mailed it in a simple first class envelope.
I returned to my PO and asked for an assist to cancel the thing or put a stop pay on it.
NOPE it don't work that way. They told me to go online and file a complaint. No way to stop the MO from going to that scammer.

I'll take a personal check or cashier's check, but with a wait to clear it and no PO box/ no Paypal. Just for fun I also look up the address on Google Maps.
I have also had folks send me a big check for a gun in a first class envelope. No tracking or anything. I can't do it myself. I use Priority Mail. $8 to protect a $4000 check is a small price.

My experience is a buyer not a seller. Seller want cash in hand before shipping. Buyers have to depend on the sellers integrity, in order to lay out cash first expecting the merchandise in good order in a timely manner. As a buyer I make certain demands, often dependent on amount of monies at stake. Not all sellers will play ball so I go elsewhere.
You’ll have to decide as a seller what demands you’d accept. Personally I need a paper trail for monies over a few hundred dollars.

I sell a fair amount of stuff here. My Pay Pal account is messed up, I cannot use. I accept personal checks and ship the same, or next, day the check is received. Never a problem. The only problem I have had here is someone saying "I'll buy it" then never send the money.
