I'm seriously considering a canoe gun for close-range hunting. I've looked at several kits and I'm leaning toward the Sitting Fox version. If any of you have completed one of these a heads-up would be welcome.

My opinion only but getting anything from Sitting Fox is a hit or miss. I would ask in the for sale section for one. Good luck

I’ve not heard much good concerning that company.
The problem with S.F. is they out source everything they sell. I don't believe they make anything. Ray the owner has a place in Michigan and Florida. They operate out of there shop. I bet you could order the lock, barrel and stock for less. That's what I did and built two for less than $800. I'm retired so time doesn't matter and it's my hobby.

Alright, what's the alternative to sitting fox? It doesn't matter to me who I get a kit from as long as it's good parts and not a pile of junk.
I'm not sure who makes one. I build my own. SF soured me a long time ago. There not hard to make as far as I'm concerned. I'm quite sure if you put a want to buy add. You should be able to find one.
I had real good luck with Sitting Fox. Ray went over the top for me.

I think the whole concept of a canoe gun got started with chambers. I "think" maybe specifically with Mark Silver. That being the case, maybe get in touch with chambers and discuss a parts set with them. Might be as simple as taking a longer barreled design and making it shorter.
I have the time and the tools. I was thinking a barrel of more like 24 inches.

Hey Rob what’s the white stuff on the ground any way ,I built a short trade gun with a 26” barrel. I live in shame I mean Canada and even with exchange on the dollar I think it was around 500 $ Canadian and my first time building a gun .So with help of my buddy I think I did pretty good and actually learned a ton about flintlocks and shooting them in the process .Also you don’t need a bunch of chisels and stuff either I think I used 4/5 and a couple raspes a drill and a jig saw and you need a vise .
Take your time and ask lots of questions about it lots of help and advise right hear on the sight .good luck .

I would skip Sitting Fox. They are cheap for a reason.
Given the experiences related by forum members, you were fortunate.

They are none too cheap, and sell parts equal to track.
I have to defend Ray here. Been in business a long time and his stats show customer satisfaction
I find it hard to believe Im the only guy that got good service from him
Have you checked with them? I was looking at a kit from them and even though it was listed as in stock ready to ship it wasn't.
