. . . is it or is it not true that people have lost their thumbs to jets of plasma when capping with bare fingers?
Josh - I have never heard of such an event. Not saying it has never happened, just saying I've never heard about it happening.

I did lose the end of my thumb once, though. Had a loaded .54, buttstock on the ground, thumb covering the bore. I was trying to hear if'n the wolves were attacking my pack animals. The wind was howling and I was trying to stop the whistling from the bore. Durn mouse found a cap I had dropped, jumped up and put it on the nipple, got the hammer back on full cock. Jumped to the ground and pulled the trigger as he went by. Stung a bit but I didn't really know what had happened until later . . . when the mouse fessed up to it . . . :bull:

OMG! Have to worry about plasma jets now :shocked2: It's bad enough I have to wrap my body in aluminum foil to protect from cosmic neutrinos.

Plasma eruption? :hmm:

OK, Gents, lest I be wasting my time... is it or is it not true that people have lost their thumbs to jets of plasma when capping with bare fingers?

(Definition of plasma: Superheated gas, fourth state of matter, as opposed to the sci-fi version. Same damned thing that makes a mess of the insides of tanks from a shaped charge from an RPG or similar.)

It would be fugly thing, and I have no reason to believe folks here would lie about such a serious issue.

Josh

OK, just trying to keep a sense of humor here. Actually, I have never heard of it happening, not to say that it hasn't. I guess someone could possibly squeeze a cap on so hard as to set it off, causing the main charge to go.

I'll have to ask Captian Kirk, or Scotty! :rotf:

That's what happens when mice and wolves form alliances! :shocked2:

Thanks, everybody! I've gotta say "hats off" to those who crafted their leather cappers. Very Nice!

OK, so I'll pick up an oval and an "apostrophe" but NOT the straight line one.

I'll see which I like better and maybe get a couple more. We'll see. I mean, all these caplocks of mine, they've all got their own bag, shouldn't I give 'em their own capper? OK, maybe not.

I just want to see if one of these things actually works better than my fingers. Finger tips get pretty sensitive pickin' up a cap and then putting on a nipple, especially when it's cold out.

OK, I've got some good advice on what to get and what to avoid. I genuinely am grateful to you all, Many Thanks!

Mark:

I have tried all sorts of cappers since 1985, and settled on two. For range firing, including competition, I use the Ted Cash oval model, with a lanyard aka "idiot string" to attach it to my bag. This after dropping on the way to or from the 100 yard target at Buckhorn Skinners range in a brush choked gulch. When capping I press the cap on the usual way, then flip the capper over and use the back to firmly seat the cap.

For hunting I use a daisy wheel made at home out of scrap leather. About two inches across, holds six caps, fits in shirt pocket.

I always liked the oval type or the simple leather circle when I was shooting caplocks.

I use the red plastic TC cappers. They may not be HC or PC, but they work real well and are cheap.

Take it for what it's worth, but none of my Ted Cash cappers (all three styles) will work with RWS caps. The caps are just a smidge too long and bind up in all three cappers. Another vote for the universal, one-size-fits-all, make it yourself leather capper.

CAPPER!! I don't need no stinkin capper. What a dumb name. Whoever thought up such a dumb stupid name?

FOR SALE --- CHEAP!!! :haha:

1 Inline capper, very slightly used. :barf:

Send SASE and .01 cent (to cover handling and make me feel like I at least got SOMETHING out of the ..., uh, thing).

Disclaimer: you have to load the caps into it 1 at a time, and with CCI caps it is a 2 in 3 chance they will flop sideways, and a better than even chance that dureing the several minutes it will take you to retrieve the thing at least 1 more will tip. Furthermore, there is a fair chance that when you really need that 2nd shot NOW, it will fail to feed a cap. It binds. And then there is the thing that if you attach a lanyard to the wire loop that LOOKS LIKE it was made for this purpose, said lanyard will be perpetually and forever in the way when you need to use the loop to hold the spring and knobby-slidey-feeder thing back in order to load caps, OR to retrieve the sideways caps. :(

Other than that, it works juuuuuuust fine!

I like my "apostrophe" shaped capper tho- you can't have that one ... :nono:

That said, I'm a leather type of guy, and those pix (by the way, nice work ya'll) have got me t' thinkin' an' a' planin'on a leather design of my own. :hmm:

Dan :hatsoff: C

Edit: I'm sorry, this item is no longer for sale, as I got just a little perturbed at it today and, well ... :idunno:
