Here is a strap I made for my powder horn yesterday. This is my second project using card weaving.

Very nice paco97.
That looks much better than the braided hemp twine one I made for my last horn. Is it hard to do this card weaving? If you could give any details on how to do it and what I would need I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Thanks. If you don't know how to weave, then card weaving is the way to go IMHO. Get Candice Crocketts book, "card weaving." and you'll be weaving in the first 2 hours. You will need to buy or make your own cards which can be made out of cardboard, leather, or wood, or anything stiff. I recommend buying the cardboard cards for $10-$15 I believe. Then you'll need some worsted yarn.

How it works is you take the yarn thread it into the cards, they way you thread the cards determines the patttern. You can attach one end to a stationary object and the other end to yourself. Start weaving by threading and turning the cards. Each turn of the cards either towards or away from you establishes the pattern.

Its very easy to learn. The biggest thing is to stay alert. One wrong turn and you mess up your pattern.

This strap took 3-4 hours from start to finish.

Hope this helps!

Paco:
The strap came out looking real nice. Great job.

paco97,

Thank you very much for the info on card weaving. That book is the best 10 dollars I've spent in the last 2 months.

I'll post pics on the craftsman forum of the straps I've done, soon.

Hey Paco, the whole set looks great! I love it when every piece can be displayed individually as it's own work of art (that's my crafting goal that I can rarely achieve). I've been looking into making a new patch knife, what kind of wood is that on yours? I love it!

After doing as you did, I acquired the stuff, made my own cards from cereal boxes and went at it. Finished my second one, learned from the first!
This is too easy!
found an online pattern maker program, experienced what yarns to use and NOT to use.
This is too easy!

second strap was a 12 card/3 color and 68 inches long plus the tails, took under 3 hours start to finish!

I can point you guys to some nice online info if you like, and Candice's book is well worth the cost!

I would be interested in learning more about card weaving myself.
Please share any information that you like.
Thank you

I too have been experimenting with the card weaving and definitely would be interested in information about the on-line pattern maker.

Google the software called Turnstyler. Its downloadable and it great for making patterns.

do a google for the loomybin or try loomybin.com
they have a software download that works pretty good.
I will put some more links up here for other helpful sites soon.
