I have a case hardened frizzen made from mild steel. My question is does anyone have a guess as to how long before I have to case harden it again? I tested it over a hundred times and it's roughed up like normal,as maybe compared to a frizzen made from a tool steel, throws great sparks and doesn't seem to be wearing fast. I thought a thousand times but I have fun just testing it and will probally have a thousand strikes on it before I ever get a gun made around it. I followed the instuctions with the Kasenit and kept it in the forge longer for a deep hardening.

Kasenit goes quite deep and my guess is you will never have to re-case harden unless you shoot 50 rounds a day for the rest of your life and your family is known for longevity.

ok, thanks:
Our family is not known for long lives, i figure i'm 48 and probally only have 20 years, God willing..

I personally would not wory about it. You sucessfully case hardened it once, It's certainly easy enough to do it again! I have thought that a well case hardened frizzen sparks a trifle better than a tool steel frizzen. Because the tool steel frizzen must be drawn back to prevent breakage. Your case hardened surface should be about 60 Rc or more. BJH

It will last exactly 100 shots less than your test.

:bull:Aside, I used Kasinite with a triple heat on a non-sparking soft frizzen several years ago, I know the guy has fired it hundreds of time and still sparking like mad.
