Greetings SPlais,

Like a number of members posting here, I have used both over the past 54 years, and I like both.

Since I no longer hunt, the vast majority of my BP shooting is competetive. You will find that some barrels like a tight ball/patch load. My 50 caliber rifles are like that, shooting noticeable better with .500" size balls.

Fifty caliber swaged balls are not available in .500' size, so casting becomes necessary. The 45 caliber has the widest selection of swaged balls of any other caliber. This is really very nice, since you can always find a 45 caliber swaged ball that developes best accuracy.

I do prefer the Speer balls, but that is an idividual preference.

Use the swaged ball with the correct thickness patch material and have a good time shooting.

Best regards and good shooting,

John L. Hinnant

The way I shoot with these tired old eyes, I wouldn't see the difference between a swaged, cast, or a tumble bug ball. I still get one hole groups, but I only shoot once at a target
