No. The present form of the lead (conicals, sheet, bars, different size roundballs) has nothing to do with its future shape. If it is of good quality, it will work for any type projectile that you choose to cast.

Since no one has mentioned it on this thread yet, just to make sure you don't mess this up like I did, do this outside, and not on the kitchen stove. Cause if your vent hood is anything like the one in the apartment I lived in years ago when I made this mistake, it will not suck up enough smoke to prevent filling your home with smoke. Like has been said, it will help flux the lead, and the lead is prefectly fine to use, just keep the smoke in mind so your wife doesn't come hunt us all down one by one.

Memphis; i melted down a large bag of T-C maxiballs last summer and they came just fine. Only compliant is they were very dirty/oxidized and caused some problems with that "scree". No worries.
Like the others said, lots of smoke. I'd try to get some of the lube off first. You don't have to get it all but it will cut down on the smoke. If you don't care then just melt away.
