Casting pewter nose caps

Thats the function the popcicle sticks serve, they squeeze the cardboard tight along the top of the barrel channel sides, forming a pinched U shape looking dowm from the muzzle. Once cooled the barrel will wiggle out nicely.
 
Here's some pics of how I do/did it.
I wouldn't presume to call these a "tutorial".
Many ways to do it, some better than others.
as always, good idea to practice one first - then just re-melt the pewter - nothing lost or wasted.

Thanks Mike... what's the purpose of the hot bolt? You mention some tutorials (and Ken G)... were they on this site? If so, do you recall what they may have been called?
 
Thank you so much for sharing that information I will be making my first nose cap pore this week. I have a friend who is going to help me with it.
